Spring Wellness Festival

Spring Wellness Festival

The Arab American Association of New York partnered with Dare 2 Dream Leaders, INC., a Youth Empowerment Program based in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, to run a Spring Wellness Festival. Activities included dance workshops (debke and step), martial arts, free medical screenings, healthy eating seminars, and trivia. The festival raised awareness around a healthy lifestyle. Volunteers and participants enjoyed nutritious snacks and drinks, donated by local businesses and individuals.

The Spring Wellness Festival was AAANY’s project for National Arab American Service Day, an annual event celebrating Arab Americans’ service and engagement in our communities. Eating, playing games, and dancing (in the rain!) created a great opportunity for the Arab American community to build bridges with the African American, Caribbean, and Latino communities of East Flatbush.

Be brave. Take risks.

“Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience.”

“When a person really desires something, all the universe conspires to help that person to realize his dream.”

“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dream.”

– Paulo Coelho, best-selling author.

Career Day @ Andries Hudde I.S. 240 8th Grade Girls…3/16/11

In honor of Woman’s History Month, I participated in “Career Day” at Andries Hudde I.S. 240 for the entire 8th grade girls. I was one of the career women and I represented Dare 2 Dream Leaders.

I had all of the girls create “Vision Boards” AKA “Dream Boards”. Through visualization the girls were able to plan out their careers, and set realistic goals to achieve them.

The event was AMAZING!!! The Vision Boards were beautiful, and it was priceless being able to sit with the girls and listen to their dreams in life and being able to provide them with belief that they can actually obtain those goals!

Stepping out of your comfort zone…

“All the concepts about stepping out of your comfort zone mean nothing until you decide that your essential purpose, vision and goals are more important than your self-imposed limitations.”
